Sandy started a PhD for the WellMet 2050 in October 2009 having worked with the group as a Research Associate for six months. Her work is focussed on quantifying the incentives for greater material efficiency in the use of steel and identifying how these incentives can be strengthened through carefully targeted policy interventions. Sandy is not new to Cambridge, having studied Economics at Gonville and Caius College for her undergraduate degree. She also holds a MSc in Metals and Energy Finance from the Imperial College Business School. Between degrees, Sandy worked for a policy research consultancy (Brook Lyndhurst), advising the public sector on pro-environmental behaviour change policy. During the four years she spent there, she worked on a variety of environmental issues, first as a researcher and later as project manager.
