Muiris studied for a BA in civil and structural engineering at the University of Cambridge from 2003 to 2006, continuing to an MEng in 2007 for which he developed a novel design for a temporary refugee shelter. After graduating he joined a multidisciplinary building design team at Arup in London, helping to devise schemes and undertaking analyses on a variety of projects from a Spanish bank headquarters to a Mexican clifftop art museum. Much of this work involved sustainability considerations which piqued his interest so in October 2010 Muiris took up an opportunity to return to Cambridge and join the Low Carbon & Materials Processing Group.

Muiris’ PhD will examine material efficiency in construction as an abatement strategy for meeting the 2050 Carbon Targets.
