Flexible Asymmetric Spinning


Spinning is a sheet metal forming process which has evolved from the ancient Egyptian process of pottery spinning. Metal sheet is spun, while a tool is pushed into it to form it onto a mandrel.

Flexible Asymmetric Spinning replaces this mandrel with numerically controlled internal support rollers. This increases the flexibility of the process, and reduces the lead time and cost associated with creating a mandrel.

Furthermore, the machine is capable of moving the internal support rollers and the working rollers radially in and out as the workpiece rotates, in order to form asymmetric components. This has allowed us to increase the operating window of conventional spinning.
